The day Her Majesty tamed the President!

What a powerful lady Her Majesty is when a look, not words, is all that is needed!

Re: The day Her Majesty tamed the President!

I've just posted some Her Maj/Dubya references in yesterday's tiara post

Can I name drop?

OK, friend of my OH was invited to lunch at the palace Not a garden party, not an event, just come to lunch, with her maj, to talk about things. So, blah blah blah blah, nibble nibble. Queen excuses herself from the table, goes to a side table, containing the serving dishes, undished food and 6 or 7 dog bowls. She puts some meat and veg in each of the dishes, a flunkey puts the dishes on the floor, she taps a dish with a fork, a flunkey opens the door and six or seven corgi/corgi crosses file in and clear the bowls. Queen taps a dish with the fork again and 6 or 7 dogs troop quietly out again

He said 'very impressive Ma'am'
She said (with a smile) 'one is Queen'

Re: The day Her Majesty tamed the President!

I am going to name drop too, A good friend of mine's Grandad was one of the gamekeepers on one of The Queen's Scottish estates (I shan't say which one) however he was taken very poorly he had liver cancer the Queen Mother was poorly at the time and My Friends Dad always made up a Bouquet of Scottish heather for her started many years ago apparently - tradition almost - anyhow when his G.Dad was poorly and undergoing Chemo the Queen Mom went to the estate and My friend was summonded by his Granddad and told which flowers/heathers needed to be put together and where to leave it so she would find it (another tradition he never handed her the bouquet as the first time he left it he was a young lad and he was too shy) Anyhow Paul did this and nothing was mentioned the Queen Mother died and Paul's G.Dad was back at the estate by then.
Then Paul's G. Dad died the same year as the Queen Mom and when Paul and his brothers went to the churchyard the following day there on the grave was a boquet of Autumn heather and flowers.........and there has been one every year. They have never made any effort to find out who leaves the flowers.
But Paul recals as a lad visiting his Grandparents and seeing the Queen walking with her Corgi' through the grounds. But with a Labrador or two when out and about on the estate.

Yes - they're not all bad.

My Oh speaks well of the Princess Royal and the local people round Minchinhampton (Glos) are full of praise for her. Driving round in the Range Rover with sacks of logs & coal when it snows to make sure all the old folk have fuel, etc etc

My daughter works at the Palace and Barmoral in the summer months, when she started there, her job was to clean up after the corgies!!! 8 years later
she has since been promoted and someone else does it now!
