Mini update

Have taken Min to the vet for her 1-month-into-treatment blood test today. He was pleased with her externally and she has gained a little weight. The blood test will determine whether she stays on the blood-pressure medication. Results later. She is on low protein diet for life now; good job she likes it. I asked about 'home cooked'. The answer is - the fatty bit of meat, chicken skin, fish skin, bulked up with potato/rice/pasta. It will be nice if she can have the occassional 'something different'.

Will update when the blood result is in.

Re: Mini update

He's just phoned - I should have waited a little!
Anyway, urea only slightly above normal, creatine within normal range.
He described it as 'excellent' and says that's it, that's her permanent regime - she's on the pills and diet for life now, but need only be seen at 6 month intervals.
Feels a lot better than it did 4 weeks ago!

Well, we've exhausted all the tasty things in which to hide them - cheese, squeezy cheese spread, ham, chicken, even a sultana! So now I'm afraid I sneak up on her whilst she's dozing, open the jaws and shove it in One a day, so we both just about cope and she doesn't appear to hate me.

....Great news DM....what a relief!

My Sam was on tablets twice a day, every day for 10 years.......he got so used to taking them that I only had to touch his mouth and he would open it ready for the tablet...no trouble at all! I really hope Min gets used to them as it makes life so much easier!

Re: Mini update

I'm glad Mini's stabilized DM, even if it means permenant medication.

The prising open of jaws and the stuffing in of tablet is the best method. Quick AND cheap I had a friend who's cat also had kidney failure and she used to hide the tablet in all sorts of foodstuffs, including (mostly) smoked salmon!!! Between that and her cigarette habit I'm surprised she had any money left for food
