Buying cats...

I was talking to a girl I know this morning, telling her about oliver she couldn't understand why I bought a cat, instead to going to a rescue for one.I explained I wanted a siamese and a kitten, because I have 3 big dogs a kitten is much easier to introduce into the family of animals..Her response,"you have more money than sense"... I didn't tell her I have the two exotics..

Re: Buying cats...

I don't think cost comes into it when you know what you really want.

Cassie is a moggie and I got her nearly 8 years ago. I wasn't looking for a pedigree but I did want a tortoiseshell. She cost me £20 then but I would have been willing to pay more for her as she was exactly what I wanted. I reckon I got a bargain with her!!

Re: Buying cats...

if you want a pedigree cat ,the reasponable thing to do is go to a breeder where you can see generations of one family.getting a pedigree through a rescue is 1 virtually impossable as there are hardly any pedigrees in rescue.
2if a pedigree is in rescue the chances are that it has a health problem as most breeders ask for there breeding back should there be a problem.

People like that make me laugh, take one good look at rescue and 90% of animals dog/cat will be cross breeds.Pedigree breeders are being told that we are adding the population of unwanted dogs/cats. to the rescue problem i dont see many persian cats or keeshond dogs in rescue.

well that is the biggest heap of rubbish I have ever heard I have had rescue cats for years and they are the most perfect siamese that you could wish for the only reason that they were given up was one had broken his tail and another had to be rehomed due to family commitments i have done rescue forblaaaaa years too many to say and ALL the cats are full a 1 pedigree siamese you obviously do not live in the real world

Re: Buying cats...

Hi and welcome to Catpages Sanachio!

In my area too, it seems to be very rare to find find a pedigree in rescue. To be honest, if I decided to get a pedigree I would go to a breeder so that I could find out the history of the breed.

Welcome Sanachio I would have no objection to having a pedigree cat from a rescue but to be honest, you don't see many pedigree cats in rescue in my area either; are there specialist rescues for pedigree breeds like there is for dogs eg labrador rescue?

Re: Buying cats...

well firstly there are several pedigree cat rescues in my area so maybe i am extremelly lucky i got the pedigrees for all my cats very well bred i had the chance of a red oriental not long ago and he was only 4mths but as i also have rescue dogs i decided that i was mad enough 4dogs and 3 cats at the moment was enough
