Diarrhea

Whisky still has diahrrea

I have eliminated Maize from his diet

He has had Avocat worming/ flea spot on and is a house cat

He is on the last day of a 2 week Stomorgyl/ 1 week Nisamox course

Any other ideas as to what the problem could be?

It is more loose stools than proper diarrhea, he never has any mucous in it!!!

Re: Diarrhea

Sorry to hear that - have you tried just a bland diet of poached white fish with a bit of rice or poached chicken with some rice and exclude everything else to see if Whisky "firms up"?

Sorry, I can't recall the history of Whisky's problem. I think he's seen the vet - I'd be taking him back.

Re: Diarrhea

He's always had intermittant loose stools, he has no other symptoms and hasn't had any weight loss and is as lively as ever.

He has seen the vet antibiotics were the first plan, I am also going to have a stool sample analysed in the new year as I am away at the moment. My poor parents have been doing the tableting over Christmas!

I haven't tried the simple diet with him but I haven't given him any new foods for months, all he eats is Applaws dried, Natures Menu, Highlife and Feline Fayre wet foods. They are all high meat content without anything in that usually triggers allergies.

I would try the diet you suggested but I'm a vegetarian myself so don't ever have chicken or fish in the house and wouldn't really be happy cooking it, ready prepared cat food I can cope with!

Re: Diarrhea

Just a thought then - as he has a variety of foods, what about eliminating one at a time to see if that changes anything?

Re: Diarrhea

Tim has a sensitive digestion, is your boy the kitten the same age as Tim ? Tim is 7 1/2 months now.

These are the foods that agree with him

Natures menu kitten
Felix adult in jelly [not gravy]

Hills sensitive adult [they dont do sensitive in kitten]
Pro Plan [dark pink label] sensitive kitten

I am very slowly changing him onto an adult diet of ~Felix wet and Hills sensitive as I have found he does better on the adult diet with regards his digestion.

Amber being younger is still on Natures Menu kitten and Pro Plan kkitten dry - Tim would sometimes eat Ambers food and it never annoys him

Incidently Applaws did not agree with Tim at all

Re: Diarrhea

Yes Whisky is around 8 months old now, he has been on adult food for a while. I'll try eliminating his current food first then if that doesn't make a difference will try some of your suggestions, thanks

Re: Diarrhea

Just to update, cutting out dried food seems to have sorted the problem

Only problem is that it is expensive and I'm not sure my other cat is getting as much as she should!

Do you think dried food especially formulated for sensitive stomachs might be ok, and can anyone recommend one?

Re: Diarrhea

Glad to hear that Whisky's "looseness" has disappeared.

Kizzy has a sensitive tum and she is fine on Royal Canin Digestive Comfort biscuits. A little goes a long way.
