Re: Cuddles, 1991-2009

Thanks all.
I feel a bit more at peace today.
Just in case anyone might benefit from this and also just to talk about it..this was the first time I experienced euthanasia when they injected into the abdomen and there was about ten minutes we had alone of her gently falling to sleep in my arms and then I could watch her breaths slow and my hand on her heart and literally feel the last beat. It was very peaceful and I felt like I actually really got to say goodbye this time. I highly reccomend this route of delivering the euthanasia. I've only experienced into the vein in the leg and that was peaceful too but this gave me time to hold her close whereas with Tigger and the vein I could only hover by him on the table as he passed.
She seemed to grow smaller in my arms as the life left her and I wrapped her up in a blanket like a wee baby and made peace with her body even after the doc came in to pronounce her dead.
Thank you for all your support. I'd like to think her and Tigger are getting into mischief in the Christmas tree in heaven right now.

Tink, I don't know where he had the injection, but when Sultan was PTS he was in my arms and I held him and talked to him as he slipped away........

He had it in the vein in the rear leg. It occurs to me that it might have been a bit different since we had to bring him to the ER clinic. Also, everyone was in the room with me whereas this vet injected her and placed her into my arms and left me with her only to check back to pronounce her. Maybe it is just a difference in clinics.

Re: Cuddles, 1991-2009

That may be it. This was at my regular vets; Sultan had been there for 3 days and wasn't going to get better so the decision had to be made. It was on a Sunday when the clinic is closed, but Dr. Bayles called me at home and said to come in as it was time and so I could say goodbye. I'll be forever grateful for that. I held him and told him we were going home to have chicken and then a nice long walk, and he just went to sleep; I still tear up thinking about it.
