A walk around Glasson Dock

Today we went a walk around Glasson Dock , it was a beautiful sunny day and we saw quite a bit of wild life.
Problem is , the Pup has developed a liking for Toads and there seems to be a lot about at the moment. On Friday she shocked me by grabbing one, she soon spat him out and foamed profusely at the mouth, thankfully both were unharmed. She seems intent on finding more now so we will have to watch carefuly.
The first pic is of a family of Swans, Mum, Dad and 7 Signets

Parents and babies

Mr Toad

Dog Daisies

Dancing Dog

Moorhen and babies ?
Mum was feeding the babies with bread, she kept dipping it into the water first before offering it

Looks like a fantastic day what a lovely way to spend a Sunday......the pup is looking good.
Lets hope the toad catching is just a phase.....are Basenji's obssesive about things? I know they are hunting dogs orginally, is there a way to distract her - like giving her something to carry or something ie a job of work?

Kazz, Basenjis do have a high prey drive and she is very stimulated by small moving objects. I'm hoping the bad taste of the Toad will put her off mouthing them. We will watch her carefuly.

Looks lovely - aren't the moorhen babies so cute?

Cali picked up a toad when she was young - did the foam at the mouth thing. Did it once more and has never done more than a quick sniff and back off since. Hopefully she'll be the same. - I love her dancing pic btw.

What super pics! I feel as if I were on the walk with you. Love the moorhen pics, swans and dancing dog. I've heard toads are poisonous to dogs...????

Re: A walk around Glasson Dock

Eileen, they have an irritant on their skin to deter predators like Malaika. Fortunately she spat it out immediately and i assume got rid of most of it when she foamed at the mouth.
I read up on the internet about British toads and several people mentioned the foaming, there was even one person who said their Dog kept licking toads to get high.
I do hope Malaika isn't going to be a junkie

How about carrying a water pistol on walks so when she sees a toad you squirt her with water.....she should eb so fixated by the toad she won't notice where the water comes from and stop????? just a thought.

Re: A walk around Glasson Dock

Yes Kazz, we may take a water pistol to deter her, thanks for the suggestion.
