Favourite garden plant

Well as I am considering a couple of new shrubs for the garden...still planning on my redesign. I just wondered which garden plant/shrub is your favourite? And why?

Re: Favourite garden plant

OK - I love Daphne for spring perfume.

I love Rosemary because it reminds me of the Mediterranean - same goes for Lavender.

I love Witch Hazel, Mahonia, Honeysuckle and Philadelphus - all for the scent.

In fact, I just love scented plants. Thymes and mints for low growing.

But you need structure too - bamboos (clumping varieties), make a nice swishing sound in the breeze and ferns if you have a nice shady place.

Depending on your soil and other conditions of course.

Re: Favourite garden plant

Shrubs: Nandina, pyracantha for berries; lilac for scent, crepe myrtle (dwarf variety) for late Summer flowers and colorful Autumn foliage.

Can't not mention all the lovely varieties of dwarf maples that are worth their weight in gold IMO for autumn colour.

Oh and that mysterious plant that Moli or Calismum (I think!) identified - Himalayan Balsam - it does have the most exotic pendulus flowers. I still have mine!
