New virus ?

There has been/is a virus here sweeping through young kittens. Some like Ben it starts off like cat flu, then proceeds to dreadful vomiting & diarrhoea & death. Others the kittens go straight to the vomiting diarrhoea & death. Some are well& hours later dead. It is ruthless & devastating. We think Ben survived because he is a little bit older. Some rescues have had to close, none in& none out - dreadful situation at this time of year & kitten season. It really hits infant kittens very hard, every day we are hearing of more deaths

Gosh that's awful, is this a strain of cat flu? And is the outbreak confined to one area/region? Lots of love to little Ben x

It's not known what it is as it mimics other serious diseases

It could very well be - its certainly severe enough, altho it doesn't explain why some start off with cat flu symptoms and then progress onto the panleukopenia symptoms quickly followed by death. One litter of kittens were taken to the vets and given clean bill of health yet 9 hours later one was dead having shown no symptoms at all

I'm going to speak to mine about it on Monday. In some areas it is unknown, in others it is rife
