He's not shown much interest in either going out or eating today, or even disapearing into the loft when it was open this morning
I shall book an appointment with the vet if he doesn't perk up, but do cats feel under the weather? and then perk up again?

Any sudden changes in behaviour, especially in young or old animals, should best be checked out by a vet.
There could be many reasons why Perry is less active, more withdrawn, lost interest in food. It could be something like another cat has scared him, but it could be that he's had a fight & an abscess is forming, or he's caught a virus or infection.
You should try gently handling him all over, & see if he reacts at all to being touched in a particular place, or if you feel any swelling, lumps, hot spots etc. It may pinpoint the problem, but your vet would do this anyway.
I hope Perry starts to feel better soon ~ let us know how you get on at the vets.
