No we decided against the chip in the end.

As we live in a rural area I just kind of figured that nobody who saw a cat out on its own would ever think it lost and it's doubtful if anybody would pick up a cat that had been been run over either.

Rightly or wrongly we just decided to go without. None of our other cats have ever been chipped - dogs yes but cats no.

The only scenario I can think of is if he decided to go and live at somebody elses house but I'm not sure.

Hope that makes sense.
