Unsure about who to insure with

Can anyone give me any advice on cat insurance? Iam looking at insuring Harris but not sure who to go with. Would rather hear other peoples views on the different insurer before deciding.

Thanks

Re: Unsure about who to insure with

Pretty well all the advice I was given by various different sources suggested that Petplan was quite a good company to go with, for various reasons... (and yes, that is who the vet company advised, but several other places came up with that one too - without being on commission!

All my animals are with petplan. They are a bit more pricey than some but I dont have any complaints. Have made several claims and they never once quibbled about any of them and paid out pretty quickly too.

Can't help as I'm in the States, but definitely recommend insurance. You may never need it, but the peace of mind is worth the price to me.

I am also with Petplan for 2 out of 3 of my present lovies! Mainly because there was a member here a while ago whose cat developed a long term illness - she said that Petplan always paid up without quibble - that goes a long way as a recommendation in my book.

I was with Petplan for years, never had any problems with them, but they just got too expensive as we have 3 large dogs and 3 cats! I think you can get similar cover, possibly cheaper. Mine are either with More Than or M&S.

i have been looking around aswell, i had a free month with petplan and they were very pushy trying to get me to sign up, not that their plan looks anything but perfect, but a bit pricey. the one im leaning towards is by the pdsa, they have three different levels, the middle one sounds good

Re: Unsure about who to insure with

I have always used Petplan. Yes, the are expensive. Yes, they are a bit pushy. But - my vet hospital and specialist bills for my two dogs will never be recovered in full by them from the premiums I pay. Not once has the treatment, examinations or referrals been questioned, and the money has been paid out promptly in full. This despite the fact I have never sought approval in advance, as they ask you to do.

Please be sure that which ever company you go with it is well known and has good reputation. It always seems a good deal until you end up paying out yourself.

I have to say though that although Petplan are good, I have never had any trouble with More Than or M&S paying out, nothing ever been questioned.
