Urgent, Child under 16? Beware

This is really frightening. The Department that deals with child benefit has lost two discs containing every person in the country's details with children under the age of 16.
These details include your N.I number, bank account details, date of birth, home address, your children's names and date of birth.
This is leaving the whole country's parents open to identity fraud.
Please be careful. check your bank statement's, tax returns ect.

It is Fran. When you think of all the details they hold. If that was a private company they would be getting sued right left and centre. What can we do? Nothing but prey were not a victim of identity fraud and if we are it's down to us to sort it out!
Something wrong there.

Dreadful! It happens here too: the Veterans Department lost discs with all the vital info; also some others that I can't remember now. Big flap in the papers/TV about it.....

No great surprise really at the majority of the Inland Revenue are complete muppets. Fingers crossed the discs turn up safe and sound.

Re: Urgent, Child under 16? Beware

I got a letter saying we are one of the families who's details have gone missing. Apparently its not every one who's details have gone missing just certain ones, there are some people who's details are safe and not lost.
They are reassuring you that the banks are saying you don't need to get a new bank account (very considerate of them NOT)
They also say if you are an innocent victim of bank fraud you do not have to pay and that the banks are putting extra security measures in place to protect those of us who's details have gone missing.

Still not much of a consolation though I don't think and its very worrying. I dread checking bank account etc for fear of something amiss.

Sarah my mum has been a victim of bank fraud (her card and pin were copied when she paid for some petrol - pin was obtained as they had a mirror on the ceiling) and the bank have dealt with it very swifty, she had to mark on her statements the items she hadn't paid for (about £600 worth) and the bank will refund this within 10 days.

OMG I am so sorry to hear that Emma

God thats the last place you expect for something to happen like that. Thankfully they are sorting this out for her and quickly too by the sounds of it.

Seems like we aren't safe any where doesn't it.

It's not so much the bank fraud that bothers me, it's the identity theft. Most of the time you are blissfully unaware until something nasty happens.

Sarah I hope they get it sorted for you and quickly.
