Monty has a Spring clean!

One thing I would definitely change about the Miniature Schnauzer breed is the coat - no matter how much brushing Monty gets, his coat mats and forms lumps that must pull and cause him discomfort, especially as he is a country dog and goes for walks in the woods and also on the beach. His coat gets wet (he won't wear a waterproof) and he takes quite a while to dry out.

Due to his groomer being short-handed as one of the ladies had a long Australian holiday, we had not been able to get him to the groomer until today. He was last clipped before Christmas

He's now a new smart boy!

I'd be chuffed if I cleaned up like him!!!

I think the groomer is getting to like Monty, she actually said that she did and is the sort of lady who wouldn't say things like that if they weren't true! We are booked now for another session mid June and a following one in September. We knew his coat was in a state and told her - she said as we knew, she wouldn't give us a lecture!!!

Well Kazz ........... first Winter we've had him. He was last clipped mid December.

What tools do you use for grooming him Angie? you say you brush him regularly and he still gets matts. I use a variety of combs on Morgan as I find brushes don't get down to the skin and he would knot up very easily if I just used brushes/slickers. Actually Morgan looks messy at the moment as I haven't been stripping his head so often and he's getting a bit of a quiff

Thanks for asking MrsH - we have a double sided brush, one side is a pin brush with coated tips and the other is ordinary bristle. We also use a comb when and where possible. I know the theory of hand stripping but have never managed to get any hair out that way. I understand that the coat has to "blow" before you can do that but Monty's coat never seems to have blown .....it really is rather like wool

He feels very nice just now, rather like crushed velvet!
