I have trouble at Italian & Mexican restaurants 'cause I'm not supposed to have cow cheese and I have to find non-cheese dishes... and WATCH everyone else eat their cheese! Still - there are things I can find...

My favorite restaurant is a Burmese one (in Silver Spring, for the DC-ites) - and my 2 favorites there are a catfish curry with tamarind and pork with sour mustard - it wasn't a green I was familiar with - NOT our typical mustard, I don't think... but I love it!

There's also a pizza place that delivers & they have great things like chicken/pesto pizza - yummy!!
My house had previously been owned by an elderly Greek lady. Shortly after I moved in another elderly Greek lady came by and said that she'd been allowed to pick dill, grapes, figs, etc. from the garden and would I mind if she still did. Of course I said OK and was rewarded for several years by homemade spanakopita! Warm out of the oven; delicious!. Unfortunately that stopped, suppose she moved away or died .....

Silver Spring has or had some lovely restaurants; when our office was there used to eat lunch regularly in the Thai Derm ...first time I tried Ka Pow chicken.

Me too! Speaking of Japanese, does anyone like wasabi? I'm not a sushi fan, but wasabi makes a marvellous dipping sauce for Chinese potstickers and shiu mai.

VERY hot!!!! Also good with spring rolls.....
It comes in powdered form, add enough water to make a paste, and try gingerly the first time...it is really hot, but marvellous.

Re: Favourite Meals

Don't try the stuff in a tube. Get the powder. Does your supermarket have an international foods section? It comes in a small tin or jar depending on brand, and isn't that expensive; a little goes a long way. If you like spicy think you'll like it.
