Could it possibly be a 3 horned hebridean sheep? Have just taken a look at lots of different pictures of black sheep with horns, and they have one horn pointing up, a smaller one pointing down next to it (which could be easily missed, especially in the mist...) and one on the other side pointing down...

They were probably aliens from Aldeberan who got separated from their saucer in the fog and were trying to get back to it before the dog got them! Lucky escape for you, Shelley
