cats/kittens

i have a problem !!! i have a 14 yr old male cat,ive recently got a female kitten, ive had her since she was 6 wks old she is now just over 3 mnths old.

how long will it take for the 2 to get on,she's getting better at leaving him alone, but still pushes it,i feel sorry for him,he makes such a fuss even if she isnt even touching him.i end up shouting

wot can i do????

today ive had the spare room door open,so she could come out when other cat was outside, typical she waits til i let the other in b4 she appears, thern jumps on him, gets smacked by him,but goes back,i removed her to the floor, she left the room,he's fine with her there long as she doesnt go near him,do i put her back through or just leave it,i dont want the other cat immediately wanting out.the moment she starts bugging him.the older cat doesnt seem interested in where she is if she's not around,so opening the door a bit to let them sniff seems pointless
