Is there any way you could get hold of some curved scissors? I use my work ones for cutting my little dogs hair and there's much less risk of cutting the skin, especially as the ends are blunt.

Also try cutting down into the matted bit. That may help tease out some of the coat and make taking it off a bit easier.

Rub some baby oil in too and this might make it even easier.

Finally got to cut the matted hair away as she was sitting looking out the window, it was uncomfortable for her as she squirmed a few times but finally got rid of it.

Glad to hear you managed to get rid of it! It would have been uncomfortable for a moment for her, but now it's gone she'll be feeling much happier!
