Re: Monday Mountain Mist

Morning, all.
Dreary and overcast here. It rained all night and morning and right now it is taking a break..
Turned on the fireplace last night. It always smells a bit funny first use of the colder season (burning off the dust since last use) but then it became alarming and rushed out to the living room to see the living room covered in smoke. Apparently a certain dog with a very energetic back end knocked a plastic vaccum attachment straight onto the fireplace. Everything was fine but just reminded K we need to have our smoke detector replaced!
I have some books to return today but it is so dreary I will just probably make a quick break for it and straight back again.
Solomon is energetic this morning playing fetch with himself, I can hear the jingle bell and himself tearing up and down the hall
The house could use some tidying and I really should do some laundry..
We went on a late night run around midnight for cigarettes (the only place open was the casino next town over). Strange though--we got turned around on the way back--everything looked different to both of us and though we've driven that way a thousand times something that should have been an hour at the most turned into a two hour excursion--spooky. I wonder if little magical beings were playing tricks last night as we saw several people pulled over on the side of the road looking confused as well!
Have a good day, all

Spooky indeed, Tink! Sounds like an episode on one of those supernatural TV shows!

Re: Monday Mountain Mist

Yes a bit like Twilight Zone or something! And the fog rolling in and the pelting rain only added to the effect. I'm very happy I wasn't the one driving

Re: Monday Mountain Mist

Strange you should say that Tink. OH and I were driving home from my folks one night (pre kids) and we drove through a lovely Thames-side village called Cookham (where the artist Stanley Spencer lived). Driving across the damp, slightly foggy moor (small, flat field actually which in typical pretentious manner was named a moor) and I swear it felt like we drove out of one world and into the next . . . a bit like Brigadoon!!

I felt a bit daft saying 'wow - that was the wierdest feeling ever' only to have OH verify with exactly the same sentiment!!

So I guess it happens, even to those of us who have absolutely no sixth sense whatsoever!

Re: Monday Mountain Mist

There is a superstition about invisible dwarves in the Philippines we call "duwende".
They live among us and we must respect that they are there and this land was there's first--which is why you should never take something from the land (be it a rock, seashell, etc.) without asking permission and if you trample a molehill it could be part of their neighborhood and you must apologize, or they have the option to play tricks with you and teach you a lesson.
On one visit there, with my ex, we went scuba diving in a deserted cove. We had gone to a very deserted area on an island where there was no civilization (except rumors of headhunters) and were dropped by fishing boat by his relatives to explore.
My ex became enchanted with a seashell that was sparkling under the water and felt he had to have it. He removed it and put it in his pocket without telling any of us about it. We were losing light and took the boat back to the camp we'd set up on the beach to have supper and sleep.
He became very ill and feverish and started speaking in tongues. He really wasn't himself anymore and started convulsing. We had been told there was a medicine man that lived not far away and one of the relatives went to fetch him (we were hours and hours from any kind of hospital).
He came and felt two pulses--one for my ex and one for the spirit that inhabited him. He asked if he had done anything to make the spirits mad and out of his pocket fell the seashell. We put two and two together and in the dead of night his relatives sped out on the boat back to the cove to return the seashell and apologize to the duwende.
My ex came to and had no memory of the last hour or so.
Creepy things do happen!
