bye by daphne

Ryan is a little upset this week.
When I had my stroke in october one brother took my fish home to take care of, my grandpa looked after my cats n bunny (we had only one then) and my other brother took ryans hamster. He never got around to bringing it back, partly cos his gf fell in love with her, partly cos the poor hammy affected ryan asthma and partly cos they live quite a distance away.

Anyway about a month ago she had a funny turn, but recovered quickly.
Tuesday night she had another turn. My brother took her to the vets weds and she was sent on her way to rainbow bridge. daphne is buried in my brothers garden.
She would have been four years old end of this month, and had turned from brown and white to total silver.

Oh yes charleygirl, the vet was amazed how old she was and said he had neer seen a hammy get so old they turned grey. Also said 2-3 years is a good age for them. She had a stroke bless her. (she didnt like me very much, always bit me, but she was a cutie)

It's a shame for the little ones that these otherwise perfect pets are so short-lived. Saying that Daphne was remarkable to reach 4 and achieve 'silverback' status.

Re: bye by daphne

So sorry to hear Cj. I hope Ryan is over the shock of little Daphne leaving us.

My two children had three hamsters over the course of a couple of years and they all died relatively quickly. It was horrible having to watch them so upset.

Emmas first hamster had something wrong the vets couldnt tell me what it was as they didnt know, but she turned completely bald. The other two just "went" for no apparent reason.

Thats why I wanted the kitties. I bit longer living.
