Hemel Explosions

I have been watching this unfold on BBC News 24

Here is a picture which really does show how bad this is

So fortunate that there were few casualties.
Hope there's nothing lingering in the smoke to make people ill or poison the ground

Yes is seems very fortunate that the depot was mainly automated.

The pictures we are seeing now are amazing but it really does make me wonder about the long term let alone short term affects on our environment

Watching the news at the moment it seems as if the fires are getting worse

It is amazing that more people were not seriously injured.
Health officials say the smoke is only likely to affect people who already have respiratory illnesses...but I don't think I would like to breathe that smoke in...

Re: Hemel Explosions

I just hope it was an accident and nothing more sinister.

No doubt if the fires continue we might see some of the smoke tomorrow as we only live about 40 miles away.

That's a bit too close for comfort Emma, I really hope it doesn't reach you......they are saying it could burn for another day

Re: Hemel Explosions

Luckily Mags I am working from home tomorrow so I don't have to go out. I think if they cannot get it under control it will burn for a few days as yet especially if the other tanks go up

BM I know, we haven't got a petrol shortage, totally daft isn't it!! the tanker drivers will just have to drive a bit further to the other depots
