Stockholm is lovely - it's built on islands so there is water everywhere.
I've only been in summer when it is beautiful but would like to see it snow-covered too.
It has a huge history of course - Vikings and all that - so there's lots of interest if the weather isn't good. They have a mediaeval (maybe?) wooden warship like the Mary Rose, called the Vasser, which they raised and resored however many years ago and is now a fab museum. Very hands on, you can imagine yourself there, living below decks.
The food is excellent, the people are charming and the flights are short! If you're into shopping there is Swedish style and beeee-eautiful glass.
It's nice that it gives you a different perspective on Europe, as the standard map projection gives Scandanavia in the middle but also shows the Baltic, Finland, etc etc...................see, we're not the centre of the universe!

A place I'd like to go, if there was a cheap direct flight, is Nice. Classy and stylish and the sea too!
Paris is great - mad traffic, surly waiters included. It's a relatively small city and you can do lots of 'sights' on foot quite easily, fortified by the occasional coffee at a pavement cafe.
Bruges is a city that lives on short breaks. Beautiful and totally geared to tourists, whatever time of year. It was freezing when we went in March but the cafes all have heated terraces, restaurants etc have blazing fires, the cuisine was hearty and warming and the beer is great!
