Re: QUIZ - Wednesday 5th August 2009 - ALL WELCOME!

It was Isaac Newton - evidently he wanted 7 colours in the rainbow to match the number of days in the week (not sure I believed that!)

Last Q and a bit complicated, I'm afraid ...

Q10. What is the difference between a raisin, a sultana and a currant?

They are all from grapes. One is from the red grape. No idea beyond that. (don't like, pick them out of curries etc!)

That's a good one. I think raisins are dried red grapes, sultanas are from white grapes, and that currants are from the currant bush.

Re: QUIZ - Wednesday 5th August 2009 - ALL WELCOME!

Well, in essence CM is right, they are all grapes (I didn't know that and thought like DM there)

Raisins are dried white grapes usually of the variety 'Muscatel'. The main producers are the USA, Turkey, Greece and Australia.

Sultanas are small raisins. They are seedless, sweet, pale golden in colour and come mainly from Turkey.

Currants are dried, black, seedless grapes originally produced in Greece. They were known as 'raisins of the sun'.

I need to recap and give you the scores, so please be patient!

Our mocking birds and catbirds love raisins! I don't particularly like sultanas, and actualy have never eaten currants.

Now that was interesting! I never knew raisins were from white grapes, and thought currants came from the currant bush. What a good question ,,,,as were all of them.

The scores are as follows:

DM - 22 points and is the WINNER! Well done!
CM - 20 points and is 2nd! Well done - it was very close.

Are you OK for next week Eileen - or do you think we ought to have a "summer break"?????
