However in the UK Black cats are considered very lucky.....especialy if they cross your path. I believe in the USA and Canada black cats are unlucky and white cats bringers of good luck is that true Dm?

I was also told one that black cats are infact often born with ghostly tabby markings on their bodies. Because the black cat is basicaly a double tabby. Where a tabby has black stripes on a grey background, a black cat has black stripes on a black background!
Yes, Kazz, the superstitious believe a black cat is bad luck, especially if it crosses your path (such nonsense!); but have never heard about white cats being lucky..... maybe in Canada?

I'd not known about the ghost tabby markings but can easily believe it. We had many years ago in our Zoo a black "panther", who was, of course a melanistic leopard. When the light was at just the right angle you could see ghost regular leopard spots, in his coat! He was a magnificent animal....

It's the same with all black dogs in rescue centres-people associate them with being 'big aggressive dogs'. Personally, I love black cats-they always look so sleek and smooth.

When my Smudge (a B&W cat but mainly black) had her 3 kits who were all B&W, their tabby markings could easily be seen if the sun was shining on them - definite "ghostly tabby markings"!
