Well done DM

Do you remember the other name I found when I was kitten hunting - Turtleback? Looks like our torties go under lots of aliases

Well done Eileen this is the first time I have heard of something that you cannot find on the web! I have got a Kalamanca too and never even knew it. By the way that is my local branch of the RSPCA where I heard it. Perhaps I should email them and see if they can tell me the history.

But I did find it on the Web, Rosie! Didn't stop in page one of the Google search, kept looking till I found it, But couldn't highlight the site location itself for some reason (?), so just highlighted the quotation itself and pasted it. Waa going to try Yahoo search also, but don't normally use that; don't think it's as good as Google,

Note spelling of Kalamanca is "calimanco". Wikipedia rarely lets me down.

Re: kalamancas

Just caught up with this interesting thread - I wasn't around when it was first posted! There are some extremely pretty looking cats in that wikipedia article, Emma-Lou!

Doesn't T.S. Eliot mention "calico cats" in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats?

That's what they're called here in the States mostly, rather than tortie and white. I kind of like calico ......
