Re: Sleep promotion tips

Found these 'sleep tips' on an anti-snore acupressure device website

  • Avoid daytime naps.
  • Allow the non-snorers to get to sleep first.
  • Avoid tranquillisers, sleeping pills and antihistamines before bedtime.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages within three hours of retiring.
  • Eat meals on a regular schedule. Don't eat a large meal close to your bedtime. (Your body needs time to digest)
  • Raise the entire bed with the head upwards.
  • Use your bed only for sleeping or for having sex (If you’re lucky). Try not to eat, worry or watch TV in bed.
  • Limit or stop using nicotine, caffeine and --especially close to bedtime. Try avoiding coffee, tea or caffeinated sodas in the afternoon.
  • Exercise during the day (but not too close to bedtime).
  • Have a regular bedtime and waking time, even on weekends and days you don't go to work.
  • Sleep on your side rather than on your back.

Acupuncture - you can buy acupressure 'cones' at larger Boots (and probably other places too). Haven't tried them so can't give a personal recommendation, but I can confirm that 'Sea Bands', which work on a similar principle, work for me in controlling/preventing travel sickness. They also helped with the vertigo I suffered when I had concussion last year.
They appear to be small cones attached to a sticky patch which you apply to a particular spot on your wrists.
Maybe worth a try - can't harm, might help?
Thanks DM for all the information, I think those 'cones' are worth looking into to. When I'm up and about again I'll be off on a trip to Boots!

Re: Sleep promotion tips

I am amazed I sleep at all!!
I do 9 things that they say avoid on that list!
Mind you, I am lucky!!! If I am horizontal...........I am asleep! It does not matter where or when! Must have been 10 years of night duty, you get sleep where and when you can!

Re: Sleep promotion tips

Afraid not DM I should have kept the 'lurgi' as I reckon I had a better sleep then! Hopefully I'm off into town at the weekend and I can have a look in Boots for those 'cones'.....

Have you tried camomile tea? That often helps me.
