Re: We've lost Smudge today.

Thank you.
I was truely a shock for this to happen. Smudge was doing so well, her thyriod was under control, her kidneys were not deteriorating very quickly and she had responded really well to the acupuncture- she was the most comfortable we'd seen her in a while.

I found her in a ltter tray, after she was still there a couple of minutes later I picked her up and found she couldn't stand. We rushed her in, and during the 5 min trip to the vet she went downhill rapidly. The vet took a blood sample ( after a check over) to get an idea of what was going on. As we did this she became more floppy, her eyes developed nystagmus and her third eyelid came across. We tried a shot of steriod but it had no effect. By that time the vet was saying she thought Smudge would not survive, so she was PTS. The vet thinks she had an aneurysm, and again we were so lucky to have been around and caught it so early.

We've had Smudge for almost 18 years, we took her in as a 6 week old kitten after she had been dumped, she was a funny little cat, staying out some night worrying me sick. When she became hyperthyroid she had to be come a house cat, but adapted to this really well. She was our little cart horse, as we called her, because she looked like she had massive legs compared to her body- we will miss her very much.
