Re: Ups and downs of 2009

Ups:

1. New patio and garden.

2. Living room redecorated.

3. San Diego rugby7's.

4. Human family still all here in one piece.

5. Lots of beautiful newborns handed over with joy to ecstatic parents.

6. Catsey and social networking sites that have enabled me to make new friends and renew old friendships from school.

Downs:

1. Beloved Bronnie gone to the bridge.

2. Leukaemia claiming my friend Gaynor.

3. High levels of sickness in work meaning more stress and pressure on us left behind, and worrying times for colleagues and their families.

4. Knowing that we're all not getting any younger and that our bodies are telling us so.

5. Feeling that the country is going to the dogs, economically and socially.

....... Will look for positive things to come out of the new decade, it's going to be a challenge!

Re: Ups and downs of 2009

Sounds like some of you've had a dreadful year Let's hope 2010 will be happier and healthier for all.

Let's get the bad out of the way. (In no order)

Downs
  • All the hand reared kittens who didn't make it.
  • Finding Ozzie (dog with rage syndrome) dead on the kitchen floor having died from a fit at just 4 years old.
  • My Queenie (Devon Rex) being PTS at just 7 years old (we could not get her diarrhoea under control and she had wasted away to nothing and started having repeated fits).
  • Having to take a very poorly 3-week old foster kitten to be PTS.
  • Financial circumstances pretty dire!!
  • Can't get rid of my 'muffin-top'.

Ups - again, in no order.
  • Knowing that most of the foster cats and kittens went to good homes.
  • The Cats Protection auction (amazing night!)
  • Making some very good friends through CP.
  • Adopting Rio (long-haired GSD).
  • Adopting Tallulah, Lulu, Tia and Tabatha.
  • Meeting my other half
  • Getting a feral kitten to 'come round' - he lets me rub his tummy now!

I always try and count my blessings. I know there are folks out there far worse off than me.

Let's hope we can help even more cats in 2010!!

Re: Ups and downs of 2009

Its been a formative year for us, where we have really found out the direction we want to take and how we want to go about it.

Downs-
1/ Losing Mike's dad at the beginning of the year.
2/ My own health being pretty poor at the beginning and into the middle of the year.
3/ Losing so many animals- over 20 of them, ranging from the tiny quail up to Mousa the sheep.
4/ Worrying about finances.
5/ Mike being away from home so much, and it looks like next year will be no better.

Ups-
1/ Feeling more healthy by the end of the year.
2/ Taking in and caring for so many wonderful animals.
3/ Mike finding out he still had a job on the 17th of December.
4/ Still being able to look after the animals we have and having the materials we need to build better facilities for them- just have to get them built now.
5/ Still having the great friends I had at the beginning of the year and making a few more.
6/ Seeing the wonderful kindness of people who have helped us throughout the year, especially the ones who were there during the difficult times.

Re: Ups and downs of 2009

Think the ups have to be....

All my foster kittens getting good new homes...
Especially Meisha, who was one special girl....
Getting Maggie, which was a huge surprise....

Down side...
The shock of having to have my very special girl Mollie pts...
My lovely boy Chancer suddenly becoming so ill, and having to pts...
Almost loosing Merlin and not being here for him....

All in all will be pleased to see the back of 2009, and hoping 2010 will be a better yesr....
