Have you tried a shallow saucer rather than a bowl? Slips underneath them more easily; worked for me.

They did a little but the sample was important to get. Better that than ongoing problems.

I am going to try that next I have transfered some into a littler caucer like dish , just waiting for him to perform now.

Sorry wasn't clear; meant just the saucer to catch the urine, then tip into a container with the crystals.

I had to get a urine sample from Chino a couple of months ago - maybe I was lucky but I washed his litter tray out and put the silicone in - he did not seem to mind that it was a small amount and had no trouble going. Of course some cats can be very fussy about changes in litter.
