Re: What makes you happy at Christmas?

Well I love everything about it!

I love the snow (not that we get much of that) I love the excitement, the wrpping of pressies, the giving of the prezzies & more than anything I love the kids faces whilst they're opening their presents. It's just magical. Christmas was always a special time for us when we were growing up, all the yummy food, special things we only had at Christmas. Opening the presents, which we always did slowly & it lasted a long time that way. I have always loved Christmas.

Re: What makes you happy at Christmas?

I love Christmas usually - more recently getting everything just so for the boys, however this year I'm with Donna I'm afraid.

I can't seem to work up any enthusiasm. Maybe it's the financial/marital headaches this year, or maybe the fact that my Polish Christmas Eve (as remembered from childhood) are gone forever with the death of my Uncle and the moving of my Aunt to her care home.

Sorry to be such a grump

Re: What makes you happy at Christmas?

I really enjoy the preparations leading up to Christmas Day, I love preparing Christmas dinner for everyone and seeing the empty plates after, even from the children, it makes all the slogging over a hot stove worth while... We never open our presents until after lunch and no-one ever knows what they are getting so it is genuine surprises from everyone ...

We have always spent Christmas day in our house, starting with parents and in-laws and our children. Sadly parents and in-laws are no longer with us but they have been 'replaced' with a couple of excited grandchildren..

This year, however, it will be different, we have been invited to our daughter's on the big day ............ I must admit it will be strange not cooking lunch this year.

All will not be lost though as I am having everyone over on New Year's Day for another festive dinner .......exactly the same as I would have done it on Christmas day!!

I suppose it's because that's how my parents used to do it when we were small so I don't take any notice of it now......... I can sit down and relax after lunch!

Re: What makes you happy at Christmas?

I think there are good things about Christmas that are mainly centred around kids - if you don't have them, I think it is hard to work up enthusiasm.

To me it's just another day but one I get to spend with my Husband and I get to see family before and after which gets hard throughout the year because of distances involved.
