Re: Help please!

Thanks everyone! The pesky caterpillars have more or less demolished the nasturtium they were on, serves me right for being to much of a wuss to remove them I moved them today, with some forceps and took them along the canal to another bush! There are some new shoots coming up so hopefully it'll recover.

Re: Help please!

Fingers crossed, they are quite fast growers so they should pick right back up.

Re: Help please!

Liz you are too soft hearted about those nasty cabbage whites - they will be adult butterflies next year and lay millions more eggs!

Your flowers do look really lovely - I would try and take out a few of those axial leaves on your tomatoes. They may look a bit "bald" for a while but it will help the sunlight and air to get to your little tomatoes and will help them to ripen. Increasing air flow will also prevent other possible problems such as mildew and bacterial infections.

(Sorry to preach - I worked for 2 years with tomatoes at a branch of what used to be called the Agricultural Research Council, many, many moons ago!)

Re: Help please!

Sorry to be so dense Angie but which are the axial leaves? I didn't want to remove the wrong ones so I haven't removed any so far. I'm so clueless!

Re: Help please!

The axial or sideshoots are those that grow out from between the stem of the plant and the true leaf.

This is a very good illustration.
