yep, One origin story of "mind your Ps and Qs" comes from English pubs and taverns of the seventeenth century. Bartenders would keep a watch on the alcohol consumption of the patrons; keeping an eye on the pints and quarts that were consumed. As a reminder to the patrons, the bartender would recommend they "mind their Ps and Qs".[1] This may also have been a reminder to bartenders not to confuse the two units, written as "p" and "q" on the tally slate

They could do to do this nowerdays, might result in less lager louts

I've heard an alternate story that referred to typesetters when it was done manually... to be sure they didn't confuse the two.

Seems an imperial quart is 2 pints - everyone is therefore advised to drink at least 4 quarts of water a day! The physios are always telling us (at pulm rehab) that we don't drink enough! So I ought to mind MY "p's" and "q's"!

That used to fascinate me! I have actually typeset manually - it's very tedious and cured me completely!
