Based on my feelings at the moment on animals and the end of their lives. What makes you realise the time is right, to let them move over to rainbow bridge?

I figure I will know - I would rather it a day to early than a day to late. I think its the best descision you can make as a good animal owner, is the last descision.

Well Karen, I cant say with my cats, but I can say that with Bonnie, our old black lab, we knew..

She always came out and greeted my mum, when she came home.. One day she didnt, and she just kept on sleeping, my mum had to go and wake her up. That was time.

Bonnie was 11 years old, almost blind and had the beginning of kidney failure (I think)

This was in 1997 and gosh I still miss that girl...

But I believe they will tell us when its time.. In their own way..

{{{{hugs}}}} for you Karen

Oddly enough while typing this people have said its eyes that tell you when its time.

And I turned to look at Oscar's eyes and found myself looking into eyes and listening to a voice telling me "stop typing woman and open the food."

you can see in thier eyes, in thier every day routine, life isnt a life anymore, it begins to be a chore, a tiresome chore of which our beloved pets gain nothing from any more, that is when we must let the head rule the heart, and take control of the situation
Hugs to you all who have had to make the hard decsion
Best wishes

He has a type of arthritis Moli, high and low ring bone both articular and non articular and sidebones in both feet. He was huntsman's horse as a youngster and was just hammered :( He has Synoquin (glucosamine and chondroitin), and bute everyday, remedial shoes and I give him a course of antiarthritic injections evry six months...this has kept him well up until now....we are wondering if we will have another winter with him :( He is only 16ish and should be in the prime of his life :(

We had a fright at Christmas time with Fifi. She had been chewing some dried leaves on the flowers in a vase and suddenly started choking. She went into a fit and all her limbs went rigid, I was on the floor with her immediately and as I was looking into her face, I could see the light going out in her eyes. I was panicking and rubbing her body vigorously, and all of a sudden she started spluttering and came back to us and ran off in a fright.

The vets kept her in and checked her over and she was OK in the end, but yes - it was all in the eyes and I've never been so scared.

That sounds so frightening Yola :( What flowers were they are they?

I think they were chrysantemums (sp), the lower leaves were getting a bit dry whilst the flowers were still fine, and it was these crunchy leaves that Fi was munching. As far as I know these aren't toxic . . . I've stopped buying lillies for that very reason.

:? I'm always wary when I have blooms in the house...I never have lillies now :( It's such a shame 'cos I love to have flowers in the house :(
