its the best bit watching them be born but its also worrying when its their first litter, you never quite know how they will react

every birth is different and you dont forget them either.I had one called Gypsy ,it was her first litter. She was pushing and i went to see how far kit was,as i looked in box she came at me with teeth barred and all her feet aimed at my face .I very quickly withdrew and left her to it.
As i said you never forget

Gawd Sam....that must have been frightening!
I would think that incident came back to you at every birth.

No theres quite a few of them but you dont see to many for sale because they carry many colour genes for breeding.Shes my first and she is very type like her mum

That is definitely the nicest coloured persian cat I have ever seen Sam, I can understand why you would like to breed kittens that colour......

shonedek

problem is you never know what you will get as there are so many colour combinations that you can get depending on the colour of the stud cat.All i know is i never seem to get the colours that i want and the colours i dont want i always get.Sods law springs to mind, perhaps i should register a kitten Sods Law lol

So what would your perfect colour be Sam?

Also are there any other breeds that have so many variations in colour as persians do?

shonedek

My perfect colour would be Tash in a van pattern, that means her head /tail would have the colour and her body would be white. She woloud only be allowed a couple of body spots. My other favorate colour is Blue eyed White,i just love them.
There is one section of the Persian colours that i wont do because its all to do with how much shading they carry,i cant cope with them way to complicated for me.

There are loads of breeds that have the same colour combinatios as Persians. It would actually be easier to name the breeds that dont.Eg Russian Blue,Bombay Black etc

Sounds very confusing trying to get the colour you want.....

When the kitts are born, do you know straight away what colours they are....or do you have to wait a few days?

shonedek
03-05-2005, 03:17 PM
white babies you dont know what colour eyes they have till older and they are registered as to their eye colour.Colourpoints you wait a couple of weeks as they are born white and colour developes later.
Shadeds you wait as they are born dark and lighten or develope patterns as they get older.
Most of mine are born with their adult colour, only my whites and colourpoints do i have to wait for.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95/zandrexo/tashwaiting.jpgShe is so beautiful, do you find it difficult keeping their coats in good condition?

shonedek
03-05-2005, 08:37 PM
i dont find it hard keeping coats at all, brush and powdered daily.(5mins max per cat).because they are done daily as they should be there coats are very easy, its only when Persians are not brushed enough or properly that you run into problems.
We do see a lot of Persians whos coats are dreadfull where the owner has only top brushed, you need and must get down to the skin.I like doing it as its quite relaxing

I brush leo and merlin regularly, it's amazing the amount of fur that comes out, they have shortist fur, but it is very thick....

I brush Cassie daily as well.....I like to think that is why she has a lovely shiny coat

its also a very good bonding process and because you do daily hopefully you will see if somthing is wrong much quicker.
