I have this week off so I catch up with my favourite dog forum. :) Things are super hectic and i'm relieved to get a week to unwind for a bit.

The boys are doing well and the newest addition is doing well too, other than being bloated from constipation. The vet gave me some stuff to give Cheddar, hopefully it works quickly.

Timber loves his cheese, especially Cheddar. :-)

Fantastic photos. Good job with the dogs, they seem to be accepting him. Hopefully he will become part of their pack and they will protect him.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together! He is gorgeous.

I'm happy with how things are progressing slowly. My one dog is still not sure about Cheddar. He walks away when he's out and pretty much stays away from him. Go figure, the biggest dog is the most afraid of a tiny kitten. Cheddar weighed 5 ounces last week, he's up to 9 ounces now. The constipation and bloating still has me concerned though. The vet said the mineral oil can take a bit to take effect. He hasn't gone all day and only went once yesterday.

Just had a thought Timber. When I've hand reared kittens or any small animal. I would wet a finger and rub their tummy to make them poo. Any mammal mother will do this, especially cats. Very small kittens need to be stimulated to make them wee and poo until they learn to do it themselves. Bit like winding a baby. Just gently rub his tummy in a circular motion mimicking what his mum would do. Word of warning, make sure he doesn't poo or wee on your lap!! I would do this after every feed.

Awwwwwwwww and Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

He is a cracker I think he is going to be a handful when he is a little bigger than a handful.

I am with the gently gently rubbing his tummy to help him go.

timber-
21-06-2014, 02:13 AM
Yes I have been stimulating him to go. He is peeing with no issues but still no poop all day today. I've been trying the gently rubbing his bum with a damp cloth and rubbing his tummy. I have to stop after a bit though because his skin starts to get red and raw. Do you have any other suggestions I can try? He is wanting to eat more but am afraid to give more since he is so bloated and is not going regularly. I'm not withholding food, just giving him the same amount as in the beginning.

fecto's mum
21-06-2014, 02:02 PM
As mentioned before, does he need worming? This may solve the bloated problem and help with him being hungry all the time. Small meals often is best, sounds like you're doing ok. He looks healthy enough. Vet could best advise because he can weigh Cheddar.

timber-
21-06-2014, 03:40 PM
Yes he dewormed the other day and will get another dose in 10 days. I have a scale here too, he is 9 ounces now. :)
If Cheddar doesn't poo by tomorrow, I will try a different formula or get a laxative from the vet. Thank you all for your help. :)

Kazz
21-06-2014, 05:53 PM
Well he looks healthy enough to me I would do as you are doing myself give him another day. It is worrying but he certain looks well enough under your care so you are making right choices.

fecto's mum
21-06-2014, 08:59 PM
If Cheddar is well in himself I don't think there's much to worry about. I've had bottle reared lambs that got very fat round the tummy. Cheddar is a little sweetie, he's a very lucky chap.

What brilliant photos, especially the last one! Thinking about Cheddar having a poo, OH suggests a tiny amount of cod liver oil or any fish oil may do the trick. Yours dogs seem to have taken to him. I bet they don't understand how a 'puppy' could be so small. Cheddar obviously loves the dogs too. It's amazing how he shows no fear. You must be doing a great job

He's looking good and bright timber-. For someone who told us they had no experience at all of cats, you've done very well with him.

I've used cold tea bag for conjunctivitis with my dogs, used in the normal way and allowed to cool down. Many folk on the dog forum I belong to swear by it.

Good thinking on the cold teabag Angie. I've used cotton wool soaked in cold tea for myself. Welders use it for arc-eye, it's very good. Must remember slippery elm too, may use that on the Big Fooze when he gets an upset tummy. Cheddar looks great, what a gorgeous little chap he is, great job Timber.

Wow Timber, your Cheddar gets better and better each time I see him. What a precious wee guy he is.It would be worth putting up with your allergies just to keep that little dude. You have done an excellent job with him I have 3 young cats that were hand reared from birth and they are very closely bonded to us. You will find the same thing with your Cheddar It is something very special and unique to cats that have been hand reared.

Cheddar is still doing awesome other than a bit of diarrhea. He's now just under a pound and a half. I wonder how big he's going to get. Does anyone know what type of cat he is?

The sun at certain times of the day make him look like he's glowing. I love my baby. Cheddar is becoming so curious and adventurous. He's found a new spot that he really likes, the shelf under the coffee table, lol. He also decided to cross my leg like a bridge onto the coffee table and jumped off onto one of my dogs Lincoln. The camera flash makes Cheddar look so different.

Great pictures Timber, I'm not surprised you are so proud of him, you've done a stunning job. When I showed my OH the latest pics he said 'oh great, is it Chedz'. I'm afraid I may have to pinch the name Chedz if (or should I say when) we get another kitten!

Cheddar is about 12-13 weeks old now. He's growing so fast. I don't know why the camera sometimes makes him look so orange.

Thanks guys. Cheddar is truly the gem in my eye. :)

The vet was laughing because he said it looked so strange me holding a kitten. They are used to me only bringing in dogs. They also "knew" I would end up keeping him. :)
