Poor Mindy when she went to vets Thurs they kept her in to do a biopsy for the recurrent hot spots/ dermatitis she takes on her neck/throat. Shes can be a nervous wee cat so found it traumatising. She finally started to come round a wee bit around 1am, by 3am came up to bed giving her the option of coming up or staying downstairs. So Mindy & Misty both snug on the bed beside me

Poor Mindy, that looks sore. Hope she's better soon.
Up with the blackbirds singing for all their worth at this ungodly hour. Cats all begging for food, I didn't fight them but should have I suppose- I'm such a soft touch!

I had to let her go this morning & do her own thing, keeping her in with us wasnt an option, she was too stressed. So shes been out in the cat run, been feeding & now up in the cat room. I just pop up occasionally to check how she is & make sure no ones annoying her. Very independent little cat

She has six stitches i can count, so they have to come out in 2 weeks.

We have had a bad couple of days. She has scratched herself raw near the wound  then yesterday and today she started "twitching". I didn't like that at all. They think rather than an allergy to her stitches, it is more likely what caused her problems in the first place. Will see how she is in morning and she may have to go back again to the Vets.

Sorry to read of your setback Velvet. I hope that the vet can help you get to the bottom of what's causing the wound to continue to cause irritation and the rather worrying twitching too.

The wound is where the vet operated to take a biopsy. :)

No result yet re the biopsy

Better news is she is more like herself today. Back to being her confident pretty self.

Vet rang me this morning. Mindy has a granuloma caused by adverse allergies. The skin round her neck/throat is very thickened. Vet said it is about 5 times thicker than it should be :(. Vet said her fur hid alot & it when the fur was shaved off it revealed just how bad it was:(

Mindy's bloodwork for allergies was also very revealing. Vet said in all her years in Veterinary Medience she had never seen results like it. There is virtally nothing in Mindys environment or food wise that she isnt allergic to :(. Not good news for us at all.

Oh my word! Poor Mindy. Are the allergies and reactions treatable/managable with steroids or other medication?

Poor little Mindy ......... have a look at the Dorwest herb website, I'm sure I've seen products there for skin and allergies, may help, may not.

Oh poor Mindy, it looked so sore on the photo, hope they can reveal what the trigger cause is for the fierce allergy :( Until then, take care both, hope you get some relief for her. x

Oh my word! Poor Mindy. Are the allergies and reactions treatable/managable with steroids or other medication?

She is to start a intensive three month course of treatment. We have an appointment on Monday where the vet is going to fully explain what exactly it entails. One of the things she has a very high allergy to is housemite dust. Not so good in a house fully carpeted however the vet is going to give us a special spray for her bedding & the house. I think the injections are weekly for three months then thereafter they get cut down gradually while the animal can tolerate it.

Food wise she has to go onto a perscription diet - Z/D. This may be difficult altho i may possibly put them all onto it as they are free fed & its easier to have them all fed the same. In a multi cat household it can be very difficult not to stop them eating each others food. That could be problematic as far as Jac is concerned & his loose bowels, ive only just got a food that suits him :(. Im hoping that the Z/D will agree as it is so specialised towards sensitivities.

Its all going to be horribly expensive as you can imagine so i was exceptionally thankful as each one came into the house I insured them. The vet claims directly from PetPlan. I only have to pay the £100 initial excess. The vet is claiming the last few times within the last year Mindy has had the other granulomas so that will take care of the excess.

I asked the vet could it be possible that the reason Mindy took herself off up to the cat rooms for hours on end was to do with the fact she has felt miserable & itchy & not because she was a Tortie. Most of the cat folk laughed when i mentioned her doing that & said - 'shes a Tortie & they do things like that' The vet agreed it is highly possible this is the reason for Mindy staying in the cat rooms. Its cooler there too so probably more comfy for her. Vet thinks it will be interesting to see how her wee personality is after the 3 months intensive treatment

I just hope Mindy isnt too traumatised by all the vet visits & treatments as she is a nervous wee soul :/
