Well woke today all good she was a bit quiet but as the day went on I thought you are not right. Booked a vets appointment for 5.50 and by then she was quiet. She was reluctant to get into the car and I went to pick her up and she screamed as I touched her stomach to lift her she then got in the car fine herself. I did tell the vet this.

Vet took her temp and then had a feel inside ... rubber glove....(say no more)
Vet said she thinks it is her tummy or back. Given the way she is standing, she has been to the loo both ways fine, no issues no sickness nothing, brought back her breakfast this morning but nothing more. Kept water down all day.
They took a blood test and thats when I zoned out her sodium level is low she is dehydrated (although drinking fine) and her white cell count is through the roof.

They have kept her in put her on a drip for fluids and antibiotics, and we see how she goes tonight. The next step is see how she goes and very possibly an xray tomorrow. Got to phone at 9 in the morning after rounds - have to say she seemed to be hardly able to put one foot in front of the other by tonight, just to much energy it looked like.
So not sure of whats caused this but I have a feeling it ain't good.

Any news Karen? How's Sal doing today? xx

Kazz
04-12-2012, 05:53 PM
Have phoned the vets a couple of times and Sal has been reported as perkier at 9am and very much perkier at 1pm she has though refused food but that not I do not find odd as she will not eat from anyone but us. Not accepting food even from my SIL who she has known since she was 10 months old. Not trained that way she just is. But will eat it if I say its okay.....weird dog. But this time would be happy she ate something and kept it down.
She has been on drips and antibiotics since she was admitted last night so loads of fluids. GOOD.
The vet said we have a couple of options, come and take her home and see how she is if she eats and keeps it down, and see how she goes. And return if neccesary.
Have her xrayed.
Leave her in there, see how she goes (not an option now she is perkier).
I am going to fetch her home and see how she goes.
Will ask about her bloods she has antibiotics, and have a few other questions. I think she will do better being home.

The thing is I would not do anything if she was seriously ill with something life threatening I would just do pallative care anyhow make sure she is comfortable not in pain discomfort and enjoying life. I would not put her through a big op or any radio/chemo.

So good news will update later if I get a chance before I go to work. Thank you all very much for your best wishes. Means a lot.

Thanks all we are home. She is very groggy(ish) not her normal self a nice shaved area just by her jugular and a bandage on her left leg (now removed) see if she grows back grey now.... http://www.dogsey.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
Seriously she has eaten 6 small pieces of chicken from me and one of those had one of the two lots of tablets she has to take.
She has had a nice drink of cold water and a wee. She has now had a sink into her bed in the living room and is "snoring" as we speak you heard her sigh as she settled down. So she will be left alone to recover her self.
Another small meal of 6 pieces of chicken about 8. And a nice nights sleep.
We are back tomorrow for a checkup and we now wait and see what happens. I am off to work shortly.

Thank you all ......I have told her that Catsey is thinking of her...... ;)
And the news is good I came in this morning to find a wagging tail attatched to my dog. Missed that tail movement. She has been a short walk round the block and cried when I tried to turn to come back home but we did turn back. She has had a very good nights sleep and has eaten the remainder of the chicken complete with tablets this morning complete with the walk and potter up the garden I am more than pleased.
She is not right but on the move that way I hope. She will be due for another small meal about 11 then again about 2-3 she is back to the vets at 5 so I will see how she is then. She is keeing everyhing down but there again she was before.......no sickness to speak of.

Right she is brghter she is wagging her tail but something is not right - so I have booked her in for xrays on Friday it will mean she is sedated but that will put everyone's mind at ease.
The vet exaimed her again tonight and no issue but her temp is now up slightly. He agrees with me xray is the next move.
She is eating, toileting, moving and sleeping. All good.

Evening all sorry to be late here but no sleep at all today and been really busy.
The update is not good.

Sal had her x-ray and the information is she has a mass in her tummy area the size of almost a small grapefruit in the area of her spleen maybe attatched.
The options do not do anything leave as is.
Open her up and see what it is and of a removable mass the remove it if not she will not wake up.

The mass could be a fatty lump, or it could be a blood filled "sac" it could saty as it is it could grow but the worse case senario it could rupture and then she bleeds out.
She was a little perkier this morning - I am going to see how she is over the weekend. My dog is poorly sick.

Thank you all very much for caring it means a lot.
She was eager for her walk this morning and ate her dinner last night - and ate a small handful of mixer this morning. She is eating, drinking, toileting and walking at a good pace when out. Just a bit quitier but there again is she am I just over thinking it maybe? She is in no discomfort to the best of my knowledge (and my knowledge of my dog is good)
Brought her a large soft dog bed yesterday and she loves it bigger than her normal bed lovely material unusual but warm and best of all removable covers for washing but hey - in fact may go back and get another for the kitchen as that one is in the living room and maybe even buy a rug for in front of the fire in the living room (spoilt) hmm debatable but possibly true. ;)
Ohh yes she demanded her kong yesterday and spent a good 10minutes having a good chew (I think it her way of stress relief)

So all good here and she is most impressed by the Christmas tree NOT. Seen it all before she is only interested in smoked bone smelling wrapping paper or rubber ball smelling wrapping paper. Which always contain her presents.

I'm sorry the news isn't an all clear - I was so hoping it would be. Would you consider an exploratory op?

Kazz
10-12-2012, 03:33 PM
No Yola - the results from the scan and xrays as well as the bloods lead us down the path of if we open her up she will not be coming off the table so I am going down the road of leaving her be.

And I really do not want to put her through a big operation.
