I've had my eye on a full sat of 'Nativity' figurines in the charity shop for a while..

So I bought them and set to work making a Nativity scene. The only thing I needed now was a cardboard box (courtesy of Iceland). All the rest was either sourced from outdoors or I already had; wallpaper paste and old newspapers (to papier mache over the basic structure for strength), parcel tape, wood glue, superglue, twigs, moss, low voltage fairy lights, barley straw, pine needles, a plastic food container (for the backlight to shine through), and to sit it all on cotton wool.
It cost approx. £8.00 to make, including the figurines, and took a few days to make. I'm glad I made it, always wanted a Nativity scene as to me, the real meaning of Christmas is lost in commercialisation these days. I looked on ebay and couldn't find any I liked so made one myself. If you'd like to make one, it's quite easy, just ask me, but time wise I wouldn't advise making it so close to Christmas!

Ignore the dismantled coffee table in the background!http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa474/MrPutney08/nativity20111.jpg

Push a plastic bowl through the cutout, cut holes in the lid, insert lights, put on lid, and voila!, a light bearing angel.

That's lovely, and so creative! I had my childhood one, but didn't bring it when I moved ......

Dandysmom that's a shame. I love the old childhood things, brings back memories. Do you wish you had kept it?

Thanks, pamela, the most time was waiting for the papier mache to dry(got impatient and used a hairdryer!), and the glue to set on the outsides where I'd split the twigs and laid them like a log cabin effect.

Bit better photo

Yes, Truth, I wish I'd been able to bring a lot of things that I couldn't, but cutting down the contents of an 8 room house you'd lived in for 47 years to what you could take to a studio apartment means some hard decisions. At least it went to my friend's Mom's church sale , so know it will be in the right place. I do like yours.

That looks very good Truth - a lovely tableau for the figures you spotted in the charity shop. Clever you!
