Folks when you got your girls spayed, how long did they have their stitches in? I'm getting seriously concerned with idea of stitches being there for 14 days and Mindy in this plastic collar - she goes to the stitches immediately if i remove the collar.

Also she isn't eating right, think she's feeling down / depressed which isn't good in a kitten that is still growing.

I'm taking her to the vets day 9 to ask for the removal of the stitches. Amber removed her own day 9 & was perfectly healed so fingers crossed, Mindy is the same

*hugs* Good luck...

As Cloud didn't have removable ones I can't say really... we did have a check up the following week, but beyond that...

I would have thought 10 days ...... but guess that's about average.

Cassie had her stitches out after 10 days.

When my daughter's cat was spayed she used to remove the collar at meal times, Mia ate normally, then the collar was replaced straight after.

Best way is dissolvable stitches and glued wounds after a spey as no head trumpet is required, we do it on all the girls and saves aggro and they only go back for a wound checkup if it looks iffy

It's been a long time, but to the best of my recollection it was about 10 days for Leia. Misty had the dissolvable ones.

Ours are free fed so no set meal times, do take it off once a day as washing is so important to them. Wee monkey took off today yanking at her stitches as she went!

Does anyone know any reason why the stitches should be kept in so long? I queried it with Amber and they shrugged and said it was their policy

Wish me luck for Saturday

I do wish they'd do dissolvable ones - maybe more expensive, but surely can't be much in it?

Good luck vibes for Saturday - she'll be so relieved to be rid of the cone.

Stitches usually are removed whithin 7-10 days (10 normally) unless using dissolvable ones , its normal to advise the cat is confined to limit its activity for 10-14 days . Prehaps your vets policy is to ensure confinement for 14 days because during that time the cone will be on her ?
Her decreased activity may mean she needs less to eat than usual ,check to make sure the wound is clean dry and not infected if it is get her to the vets .Also get to the vets if shes not eating at all ! Other than that try hand feeding some of her favorite food and increase gentle physical contact especially if shes usually a good lap cat. Some cats find comfort in increased contact even when eating whilst depressed .Hope all gos okay
