Frustrated as all get-out. Got the new desktop today, annoyed that none of the Macs will work with dial-up any more. So, big sigh, will change to DSL, even though I really don't need all that speed. Come home, call Verizon (phone carrier); find that DSL capacity full in my area, not available. Tried Earthlink, my dial-up provider, and they don't have DSL capacity in this area either. So, will have to wait till I move to the retirement complex; they do have Comcast available.

So, will have to wait till I'm accepted and move in before I can take the new one out of it's box! Not exactly what I had in mind. Oh well, no one ever sail life was fair.......

Thanks for the link; got the same message we got from a human rep this afternoon: sorry the servixe you are interested in is not available in your area

Off to try the next link you gave me .....

The odd thing is, my friend Chris lives next door and he has Verizon DSL ... supposedly no more capability in the area..

Same with the second link; Verizon not available. Not sure about Comcast, have forwarded the link to my cimputer buddy Chris who knows about these things; will see what he says.....

thanks again for your help/advice, you.re a star, Az!

I just put a random Washington address and zipcode into the second link and a few different DSL suppliers came up :-) so hopefully you'll be able to get it too.

If Chris can't help PM me your street and zip code and I'll put it into that link and explain what they mean/what your options are :)

How frustrating!!! Looks like a lovely comp when you get the right network though.

Good news Comcast seems to be available in your area :D

They are doing DSL for $29.00 a month for non-cable customers (if you get it with cable TV etc it might be cheaper - do you need cable TV or a phone service? Their TV/DSl/Phone bundle is $99 a month)

I'll have a look later on tonight as I have to go out in a bit - my dads in hospital again, with a chest infection this time.

If you want to have a quick look, check out https://www.comcast.com/shop/buyflow2/products.cspx?SourcePage=Cable&&Inflow=1

> then enter your address details
> click continue
> click on 'faster internet' in the orange tab (it defaults to 'bundles')

I need to look at modems for you as they only offer you a rental option (it's usually cheaper to buy)

Hi and thanks! Chris says no to Comcast, he's already researched it; they have to actually run a line to the house, and as I won't be here that much longer, thinks it's better to wait till I'm in Friendship.

Very sorry to hear about your Dad; hope the infection clears up ... not good, with his heart condition. I wish he'd just go for the op .....

How long before you get into there Eileen? Cable is quite popular these days - I think so long as you own the house and are not renting, you don't need to get anyone's permission to have the line run to your house :)

My dads doing better thanks - think they may send him home tomorrow :)

Sorry if I wasn't clear; seems to be no point in having a line run in now and then disconnected in a few weeks when I move ..

Good news about your Dad! :D

Oh yes, excited! If I am approved will probably move in July!! Keep sending good vibes that my adjusted income figures won't exceed the allowable amount .......

They do, Az. I did a thread back in April with pics of a model flat; unfortunately have deleted the floor plan. Will find it and re-post.......
