Thanks, I think it may be a Damsel Fly as it was too small for a Dragonfly...

Thank you, it's a Fuji S5800...

Definitely looks like a Damsel Fly to me; that's a pretty one! Well captured, Mags!

Gorgeous...

And I was guessing dragonfly, but I wouldn't have known about size things, so...

What a stunning colour - I've just looked it up and it is (surprisingly!) called a Blue-Tailed Damselfly and it is a male as it "has a conspicuous blue patch near the tip of the abdomen. In the female the blue is often replaced by lilac or pale brown." (Collins Gem Insects photoguide).

Great shot Mags!

Thanks Angie ..... and for the added info:) I'm pleased it was the male now, he is much prettier than a duller female! ;)

Nature must be a bit of a chauvinist, the males get the fancy colors and displays! Think peacock!

I have a tiny little pond in the back yard, so often have dragonflies and damselflies around, but never have been lucky enough to photograph one ... great shot. Mags!
