I'm wondering if anyone has had this before....I'm looking for some advice

3 months ago I started getting pain around my ear. shooting pain above it and then pain under my ear (not exactly in it but in that area) then this developed to a goosebumpy feeling across the side of my head. I then got a clicky jaw all on the same side.

Well the pain has got really uncomfortable. not severe but annoying, dull ache and not lasting long but is frequent and has woke me up.

Its across my ear, the side of my head, my jaw and teeth and now going doing my neck and generally feels like my skin is crawling ( like a flush of goose bumps) with pain under my ear and like I'm leaning on something. But doesnt come associated with anything (such as chewing).

I have been the doctors who looked in my ears and has said its not an infection, probably related to my jaw and I have to go the dentist.

The thing is I dont really want to pay for a 'check up' to be told take ibrufen and rest it. just wondering what it could be, why its causing so much discomfort and any solutions
if anyone has experienced this.

I had a similar thing a few years back and was told it is a trapped nerve. It did go away eventually. Have to say I wouldn't have described it as in my teeth, but def 'goosebumps' is a good description.

thanks Calismum, I know what you mean, its not in my teeth it just has moved along that area and I think its just affecting the whole of the side of my face now.

Did you go the dentist? how did it go away? is there anything I can do?

Definitely sounds like a nervous problem. I would try a chiropractor rather than a dentist.

No I didn't go to dentist. GP suggested ibuprofin and told me to open and close jaw as wide as I could and wiggle side to side. It eventually disappeared after a few months.

I just don't think mine sounds as severe as your does - difficult to say.

Just tried what you said an if I move it from side to side it clicks and feels dijsointed. I cant open my mouth to full stretch either. this also brings on pain on the side of my head.

I'm just confused who to go to really. I think mainly because it didnt start as Jaw pain or wasnt provoked by anything.
I think I need to ring around for advice. You would think the doc would have done an xray at least!!

no ideas what it could be, perhaps some deep rooted infection??? i dont pay for dental checkups anymore, is it different where you are?

Lynz I had to register privately as there were no nhs places left. it costs a fortune really and I knwo I shouldnt think like that because health isnt important but to go and be told its not their issue or expertise then its a waste of money

Have you an emergency dept at your local hospital ..... or maybe a NHS Walk in Centre? I think I would try that before a dentist.

It can also be associated with a tooth problem.

Well I went the walk in centre and she examined me to make sure it wasnt anything sinister. She has said she feels its a ligament problem in my TMJ joint and needs an ENT specialist. But I think I may still go the dentist before going back to my doctor and just rule out the possibility of anything in that area too.
didnt get much sleep last night so was a bit spaced out today but in a little less pain so thats good.
Thanks everyone
