Seems about time to resurrect this again; what are your three favorites? Mine:

Cherry Tree Carol
Good King Wenseslaus
Partridge in a Pear Tree

I think I change my mind each year on this! :)

This year I think my favourites are

Coventry carol
Carol of the bells
It came upon the midnight clear

I like a spirited Ding dong merrily on high; also Good King Wenseslaus and I saw three ships.

One of the best parts of the season - carols. The other fav parts are the tree and a drop of sherry (don't have it any other time of the year!) hic!

Is it just sort of Carols or popular stuff too?

My favourite is Fairytale in New York.

Oh come all Ye Faithful
We wish you a Merry Christmas
Silent Night

But that may change...

I also like "Driving home for Christmas" and "Merry Christmas Everybody" Noddy Holder.

In fact I like it that much here are the lyrics....

Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
It’s the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does he turn up on his sleigh?
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Are you waiting for the family to arrive?
Are you sure you’ve got the room to spare inside?
Does your Granny always tell you
That the old songs are the best,
Then she’s up and rock ‘n’ rollin’ with the rest…
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
Are you hoping that the snow will to start to fall?
Do you ride on down the hillside
In a bobby you have made?
When you land upon your head then you’ve been Slade.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
xxxxxxx

Then he screams the magic words...........IT'S CHRISTMASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Hmmm... will have to think on that one. Too many good ones! Mind, some of the ones I like the best have 'alternative' tunes. So I like one setting of 'away in a manger' but it's not the one best known!

Only thing I'm completely decided on is that I utterly detest "Last Christmas" and as I hear it each year I find myself wondering how on earth the person didn't learn from the last time... ;)

I do like that one, yes, though it's not the one I'm thinking about... That one was done as a leader-response kind, and the one time I heard it the leader part was done by a soloist, and the response by the rest of the group.

Speaking of alternatives (off topic, I know, but it's my thread  ) I love Madeline MacNeil's alternative melody to Auld Lang Syne in her Crowning of the Year album; very beautiful. The whole album is lovely.

Sometimes to me the song is secondary to where I am and who I am with so my choice varies.
