View Full Version : Do your cats follow you?

As I was having a shower earlier - with three dogs and two cats all rammed into the bathroom as they have to have me insight at all times- it made me think that I know dogs are supposed to follow their owners everymove but I have not had cats like Bhindi and Mitsy who follow me everywhere before.
I know most cats will follow to where they are usually fed but my two go everywhere!
Do you think it could be because I live on my own?
I was just wondering what others experience of this is.

You are obviously pack leader Danielle and perhaps the cats don't know that they are not dogs!

I have never had a dog and my two only follow me around if they want something! Generally food, but Kizzy now follows me if she wants someone to play with her and both she and Pip (strangely) seem to be very attentive when our bed time is due. It's almost as if they are telling us it's time for bed!

Not sure I'd want dogs and cats watching me in the bathroom

i get followed a lot! the bathroom does seem to be a favourite for some reason!! my old cat used to sit outside and watch, i'd have to shut the door!! my mums cat usually comes in the bathroom, even if shes been lying sleeping. pip follows me if i go upstairs or into the kitchen, incase he's missing something!!
the worst is my mums dog, he can be lying snoring away in the living room and as soon as i stand up hes scrambling up to follow!

Some have, some haven't. Both my Siamese and my Singapura boys did; but they are very people-oriented breeds ... yes even to the bathroom. I live alone also, don't know if that has anything to do with it; none of my moggy girls do/did it. Not a dog person.

Bronwyn is convinced that the bathroom is the way to narnia lol she HAS to be in the bathroom if I am in there. Also I do find that what ever room I am in...give them a few minutes and they are soon in there with me.

Example .... I am in the living room with my iPad and slanket , bron is on my lap and Arthur is by my feet.

Thanks for the replies. It is quite interesting. Mitsy seems to require physical contact as much as possible where as Bhindi is quite happy as long as I am in sight!
I didn't deliberately set out to have an audience in the bathroom but when I got my BSD, Pascha, she made it quite clear that closed doors were not a possibility by leaving me lovely 'protest poos'! It took me a while a get used to it but it makes life sooo much easier!
Maybe it is because of the dogs following me they think they might be missing out on something.

Alfie used to sleep in the bathroom and would protest loudly if asked to move.

Two kittens follow us everywhere, but I think it is just sheer nosiness!

Cali is now at an age where here people esp is fully developed and she only appears if there is a chance od food, walk or a visitor paying attention to her.

Kuan Yin only follows me when she wants something (like a door opened, or her water refreshed, etc.).
Hestia is not much for following.
Solomon follows me everywhere..usually chatting along the whole time too!

I think Onyx had Siamese in her ... black cats are often the result of a Siamese cross ... and once she came to trust me she'd talk a blue streak!

That is funny because K grew up with Siamese crosses..they were black with blue eyes :D

Did he; how interesting! Where I lived before there were two blue-eyed black cats in the neighborhood. they were stunning. Onyx had yellow eyes, as did Carolyn's Minguette (Siamese daddy)

Yes, two of them named Piffle and Gruff. I guess his mom used to really like cats, especially Siamese..which is odd because now she is a dog person with her three cocker spaniels!
I've only seen pics on the internet of blue eyed black beauties but I find them gorgeous!!

Apologies to Danielle for hijacking her thread .....

I wish there was a way to establish blue-eyed blacks as a breed; black coat color seems easy but eye color is apparently difficult to transfer.....

Yes, sorry Danielle
Can't find a picture now, I'm sure I saw some on a cat forum at some point, I remember being taken with them..must be like winning the lottery with genetics, I guess.

Tom and Jerry only follow me around in the house when they want feeding.
However Tom will follow us when we walk the dog, since the weather has got colder though he doesn't bother.

my 2 follow me about. bit un-nerving to having them sitting on the bed watching me get dressed.
we have an alley way along the back of the bungalow.and when i go out i have 1 cat sitting at 1 end of the alley and the other 1 sits at the other end. they wait for me and escort me home.

I love siamese so this is great to read actually. Bhindi talks to me and waits for me to reply I love it! She is tabby so no chance of any siamese in there!
As most of you know I had been waiting for a siamese kitten when I felt I has to take on Mitsy. I wanted one particularly because of their temprements which Mitsy does seem to be ticking all the boxes so maybe it was meant to be!

I admit that Siamese cats look lovely... Thing is, I always end up transported to the Siamese cats in "Lady and the Tramp" and they just annoyed me... or perhaps it was their song which did that...

I agree there Squirrel, that annoying song didn't do the Siamese image any good! But they are amazingly clever talkative companionable cats!

Dylan feels the need to know where everyone is at all times  even in the bathroom

Including knowing what you are doing in the bathroom (I'll leave that to your imaginations though)

Oliver and Benny follow me everywhere. Benny will follow if we are going to the shop, but he only walks so far then stops and makes the most horrendous miaowing noise till we get back! Its awful, sounds like he is being tortured! lol

One of my moms cats, Mini, went through a phase of walking through the woods (her house backs onto woodland) with her and the dogs but when it opened up to a copse she would sit and cry like that!
I used to love that Siamese cat song but then I guess I was an annoying kid at the time so annoying songs would most probably be the usual!
