my mummy rat is in the vets, on a drip. she is going to have an operation tomorrow to be spayed as a result of possible pyometra. she is only a year old but i am quite worried as she is quite lethargic and going off food. i did want the op done today but they were too busy. so heres hoping the drip perks her up and she is strong enough to get through it :(

here is the beautiful girl

she didnt make it :(

they found a mass attatched to her intestines and managed to remove it, but then her blood pressure dropped..

i am so upset, then when this happens we are full of 'what ifs'
what if id brought her home last night instead of leaving her?
what if shed had the op yesterday?

i havent even got any recent photos, i was gonna wait until the babies first birthday in 2 weeks, and she never got to say goodbye to any of them yesterday :(

I am so sorry to hear this Lyn, run free Mummy Rat.
I know it wont help much just yet but realy you did everything possible for her, if there was a mass then i doubt very much that the outcome would have been any different whichever day she had the op on.

Oh lynz, I am so very sorry. I am sure that you couldn't have done any more and if you had bought her home she could have been in pain and I know you wouldn't have wanted that.

RIP sweet mummy rat.

thankyou, i feel a lot better, its just the shock. i said goodbye to her and had a chat with the vet, which reassured me. when she was opened up her tum was full of blood aswell, she didnt stand much of a chance poor girl. they said her chances would have been the same if it were a cat or a dog. i'm glad she didnt feel any pain or was aware what was happening and my only regrets are that she was by herself and didnt get to say goodbye to the others.

So sorry lynz :( It's the main reason I stopped keeping rats, they are so affectionate and intelligent and their life spans are so short, it broke my heart when my last girlies died.

RIP sweet girl x
