Today Monkey had an appointment for a recheck (he did very well and the doctor is pleased). While we were wrapping up, my vet asked if I might possibly want another ferret. I asked her why and she told me she had just saved a little boy today and did not know yet what she was going to do with him as she did not want to add to her business at home but she would foster him if needed.
This is his story--
A year ago, a young man brought a ferret in with severe ulcers. Little boy was emaciated and did not have enough strength to stand. My vet reccomended euthanasia as it was very obvious he was suffering very much. The owner refused. So as an alternative they attempted agressive therapy though she did not hold out much hope he would survive it in her medical opinion.
He did in fact survive and once he got better and she was able to really evaluate him she saw that he had neurological damage. He is a normal ferret but he just basically walks a little differently than other ferrets and sometimes slips and falls over.
Fast forward to this morning, my vet gets a call from the humane society. Little boy was dumped off at their shelter. When they scanned him for a chip, they saw it had been implanted at her office. They evaluated him and saw his neurological damage and deemed him unadoptable and would be euthanized. In a last ditch effort, they called her (because my vet is known for her love of ferrets) and asked if she would like to take him--otherwise he would be put down. After all he went through she could not with a clear conscience let them euthanize him so she agreed to take him this morning and figured she would worry about finding him a home later. That is where I came in.
He's a handsome sable boy with a white bib. He actually looks like a young version of Cooper. Very sweet and gentle. I told her I would take him home with me as I think he would get along great with my gentle group (Cooper..who is 7 years old and Pino..who is only a year but very gentle girl..they are my "mellow" playgroup).
So now he is home, I have set him up in the playpen. The vet gave him a clean bill of health and even updated his vaccines for me free of charge and sent us home with a carrier and blankie. Pino and Cooper have sniffed him through the bars and all seems well so far. Poor little thing was hungry as he scarfed down about half a bowl of food. He has had a hard day being dropped at the shelter, taken to the vets, and now home with me so we are just taking things slowly right now. He is really a sweet boy, I will try to get pics of him as soon as things settle down :D

Thanks, everyone!
He has been intro'd to Cooper and Pino and things have gone great so far.
He is not able to use ramps so right now he is staying in the travel cage and I am ordering him a kittywalk today so he has an enclosure that's one level but nice and long so he can spread out.

Just wanted to update that Zero is doing great.
This boy is different but make no mistake he is all love.
He has gotten better the last few days with falling over as he walks, I think he is starting to memorize my bedroom and so things are getting a little easier for him.
I have to share that I am so proud of Cooper and Pino. He does not have enough front end coordination to grip ramps or climb and he was trying to negotiate the ramps in their cage on the first day and kept tumbling down. Well I couldn't believe it but my Cooper and Pino followed him and buddied up and stood underneath him everytime he tried in order to break his fall so he would have a softer landing. I am SO proud of how gentle they are with him; they definitely know he is special needs.
He doesn't always make the litter box but he tries his best, bless his heart. It seems his front end and hind end don't always want to do the same thing at the same time. When he's affectionate he licks the air and bobs his head because he lacks the coordination to kiss you so I hold his head still and kiss him. He is also a great cuddler. He is so special :-D
