We lost Ashely, our 2 1/2 year old rat tonight.
She was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour over a week ago and we tried her on some new treatment, which had amazing affects. From being tired and almost cripple she jumped onto her igloo and ran to the front of her cage for her treat.
However last night she fell off one of the ledges we think, due to a sudden deterioration, she continued to go downhill today ( although still eating). However, this evening she was totally flat so we rushed her into the vets and sadly had her PTS.

We are no left with just Polly, poor girl will be on her own tonight.

Sorry to hear that farthing. Is 2 1/2 a good age for a rat?

yes, they live for 2-3 years. They are such lovely creature, but have such short lifespan, they are so endearing and so gentle.

Yes, my friends daughter has a few and they are so clever.

Poor Polly being on her own. They are sociable wee things, it will be strange for her.

so sorry :( It's the main reason I stopped keeping rats, I used to get so attached to them and couldn't take the frequent losses, but they are such beautiful creatures x

it is awful to lose any pet, some people think beacause it is a rat it makes it easier, but it certainley isnt. i bet some kittens would cheer her, and you up! when i was much younger and before i knew better(i was told you couldnt intro new rats) i would just be left with one rat left by itself, when i think back its horrible, but some babies will brighten her up.

I am keeping my eyes open for some rescue rats who need a good home. Its good in a way that there don't seem to be many rats needing new homes-just not good for Ashley.
If you hear of any in north scotland needing a home, give me a shout- I have Polly in an explorer and they will be given the best care I can give.

i know there were some on the spca rescue for ayrshire, think they're based in ayr, or if you want kittens i can put you onto my breeder who is in troon. where abouts are you, i could travel down a bit with them if you cant get up here.
