Pics to follow, I promise!
I couldn't resist and am now foster mum to a teeny weeny baby! He's approx 24-48 hours old, still got his umbilical cord attached!
We had a call from a member of the public who had heard him crying in some bushes in a local supermarket car park, one of the girls went and picked him up and brought him in.
Still very early days but he's a little fighter, very strong and suckling well from a bottle. It's totally crazy-I'm struggling with just working full time and pregnancy related anaemia but I so loved my past foster babies and I can't help feeling I won't get a chance to do it once the human baby arrives
Will keep you all updated on progress, no name as yet-I never name them for at least a week.
Currently weighs in at 79g

I think mum must've been in the process of moving them and he got left behind, or she got scared-it's a very busy carpark. We went back to look for her and/or any other babies but no luck :( I asked the lady who found him to let us know if mum is found but I think to be honest he will be staying and we will find him a new home once he's ready.

How lucky the wee one was found! He couldn't have a better foster mum than you, PL, he'll do fine and thrive, I'm sure. Can't wait for pics.

He's a little fighter! Been taking 4-5ml every 2 hours and sleeping soundly in between feeds which is a good sign. Imogen has decided he's not that interesting after all but Darcy is convinced she's had a kitten! She's constantly trying to nuzzle and lick him  :D
I managed a whole 11 hour shift at work without falling asleep too!
Weight today-80g

Well done little lad and well done Liz. Are you keeping a note of his daily weight??? Do let us know how he comes on. Glad to hear he's a fighter.

I did get a bit of a telling off from the midwife this morning I admit! I had a half day today so got a nap this afternoon and I will be careful. We have lots of people willing to take him overnight so I can get some sleep if I need, although I've never been good at handing 'my babies' over to anyone else!
His coat is starting to grow now-I did wonder if he was maybe slightly early as he was fairly bald over his legs and chest and the coat is looking a lot more shiny :D I've started to gradually switch him over to the royal canin kitten milk as I much prefer that to lactol.
Worked out today that he is my 17th foster/hand reared baby (mostly kitties but a few pups too)

Glad you are taking care of yourself Liz and that others are able to help out with Kit. Glad to hear he's still hanging in there and that his coat is growing, which must be a good sign.

What a kind thing to do (although I think any cat person would try to do the same thing) Luckily you have experience I'd have to keep him by me 24/7. He looks to have lovely face markings. Look forward to seeing what he looks like when he's a big boy.

What a fab story Liz :D but yes, I agree with my midwife chum take care of number 1! You will need your sleep and this little one will be disrupting that for some time yet. I do admire your skill and compassion though, only you could do this and be the proud 'mum' to so many tiny babies who wouldn't be here without you.

He looks divine though and yes, I've never seen such a small kitten. Beautiful :-D

I'm so sorry everyone but I lost the little guy this afternoon:cry: He just faded after being so strong for his 3 and 6am feeds, we tried everything possible but in the end I had to help his little soul over the bridge.
I have been beating myself up about it all afternoon, trying to think about what I could have done differently, with lots of tears, but I think he was just too little.
Never gets any easier

I am so, so sorry. You did everything you possibly could - and more - you gave him every chance, but I did wonder as he was just so tiny, you tried, that's as much as anyone could have done, but the odds were against you. Don't beat yourself up. Take care xx

Rescue Rainbow Bridge Poem......author unknown.

Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch.
It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.
He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be.
But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge.
With no place else to turn to, the elderly animal turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.
One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for a while to explain it to him.
You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older animal with his fur graying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge.
The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?" As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older animals, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.
"Watch, and see" said the second animal. A second group of animals from those waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.
"What happened?"
"That was a rescuer." The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of his work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they couldn't place on earth, across The Rainbow Bridge.
"I think I like rescuers," said the first animal.
"So does GOD," was the reply.

So sorry, but you did more than most for him. At least he died warm and loved. I always get so upset when this happens to me but the fact is that the damage is done before they come to you and all you can do is try and pick up the pieces and it doesn't always work.
