The cardinal has been hanging around my house quite a bit lately; finally know why! Mrs Cardinal is nesting in my neighbor's upright yew. She's well hidden in the foliage, cannot get a pic of her without getting too close and don't want to scare her. The nest is only about 12 - 15 feet from my steps. Baby cardinals, isn't that cool?

Pic not too good as it was taken thru the porch screen.http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/dandysmom/Non%20Cat/DSCN1513.jpg

I had to Google the incubation period - 12 -13 days. Chris noticed the nest two days ago, so no idea how long she's been sitting. I'll post when there's any news.

Wow what a striking bird and so neat for you to watch. I think I found a mother bird feeding her young yesterday though it was too far for me to see the young but she sure was acting like that was what she was doing in our tree :D

Bulletin! They've hatched! Hard to tell with the thick foliage surrounding the nest, but it's two or three, Mom and Dad ferrying food in all day. Chris will try to get a pic from his porch. :D

It seems to be two fledglings as far as we can tell. Chris promises to try for some pics from his porch; I explained you can take a pics thru the porch screen if the lens is held right up to it. Not the best, but better than nothing. Fingers crossed he'll get some.

Sad news. The nest is empty. I had noticed that the parent birds weren't around over the weekend; I can't see into the nest from my yard but Chris can from his porch. He was away for the weekend but checked this morning and no babies. They were too young to have left; I suspect it was the horrible heavy downpours recently. Or perhaps a crow. :(
