Hestia has gone missing again:( I was so busy yesterday I didn't notice until very late that I had not seen her in awhile. She slips out of doors quite quickly so she might have done that at anytime. Last time I saw her was yesterday afternoon.:(

Are you thinking about my friends cat? It was spotted for a full week but would not come in. She borrowed a live trap from local CP and caught her that way. Vet visit said thin and dehydrated with a sore eye but she is well on the mend. Now shows no interest in going out.

Tink - I hope Hestia comes in soon.

Hopefully when Hestia returns she too will have no inclination to go back out again. Maybe tonight's the night when she'll come wandering back in; I hope so!

Thanks guys. I emailed various shelters her photo and all but one got back to me saying they had not seen a cat like that the last week. The one who didn't say yes nor no was Animal Control (they pick up dead bodies), they told me I'd have to come in person to see the cats they've gotten in the last week. Maybe I can get K to drive me over there today...

Oh how I hope she is there.... live, I mean! Surely they don't keep bodies for that long. do they? Praying for good news .......

Have you asked around neighbours, it's possible someone has her. Also have you put up lost posters in your area?

Hi Tink - so sorry to see that there's no good news yet on the return of Hestia - I know exactly what you're going through right now and it's awful! Try and stay positive x

Tink

Thanks, will be walking around the neighborhood and talking to neighbors and putting signs up tonight. There is a neighborhood behind us I did not even think about looking in until K brought it up today.

You never know Tink, even if she has the best of homes with you, she still could be with someone else.
One of my Cats from the past used to have a house were he visited, in fact he had two. I would often drive past and see him sat inside on their windowsill.
I know Hestia didn't go out but maybe someone found her and just took her in.
On another forum someone had lost her dog, she put up posters and someone did contact her and she got the dog back.
Wishing you the best of luck in your search.

Tink

I actually hope that is the case Shelley it would make me feel loads better to know she is fed and warm. There is a cul de sac behind our house that is hard for humans to get to without driving in a roundabout way but accessible to animals. I don't mind if she has two homes as long as she is safe.

dandysmom
05-05-2010, 11:47 PM
Good luck in that neighborhood behind you. If she's friendly, and wasn't sure which way back home was and met a person who thought she might have been a stray cat on a cold windy night and was invited in .... that's what I'm hoping has happened.

Went to both humane societies serving our county today. Not there. Filled out a report at both places. Walked around the neighborhood and set up flyers. That one behind us I was thinking she might be in is not what I expected, high end, real nice houses and such. So maybe she is eating out of a crystal goblet in one of those houses, I don't know.

Oh, awful; if she would only show up! Where can she be; still praying hard. It's heartbreaking when they just vanish ..:( But I can't help but remember Dinahsmum's Chester who reappeared weeks after everyone had given up hope...

Tink
07-05-2010, 02:23 AM
Yes, this is true. I got a card in the mail today from the vet with Winnie's pawprint on it. Broke down and cried, not a great day. Didn't help there was horrible people at both shelters surrendering cats or trying to get them back who treated their cats horribly (a woman was livid b/c they wouldn't give her back one of the litter of kittens she took in after she admitted she would NOT be bottle feeding it..it was only several weeks old, sigh...)

Whenever I read about one of us grieving the loss of a beloved companion, I think of these lines from Kipling, who was a very wise man and had a way of putting things so well ...

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
But when we are certain of sorrow in store
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Tink
07-05-2010, 03:17 AM
That does sum it up nicely.

Kipling's words are true, but where would we be otherwise without the company and comfort of our cats or other animals? They do generally give us much more than they take in my view. I would rather endure the pain than go without the time I have had with my cats.

Edited to say: Missing is very different - I do understand and still have my fingers well and truly crossed! ((((HUGS))))

dandysmom
07-05-2010, 03:58 PM
Angie, I don't think that he meant we shouldn't, but was emphasizing the pain that the loss causes ....... anyhow that's how I read it. I too can't imagine a life without our furry companions.

When Scamper vanished my Mom was in denial and, insisting he would come home, would not let us get another cat ... I spent several unhappy catless years.

A little skinny and dirty but okay. She's also almost lost her voice, I wonder if she was meowing a lot..
I was openinig the bedroom window to let in some fresh air and I put my head out to breathe it in and below me was Hestia sitting there silently staring. I tried to get her to jump in the window but she was hesitant about that. That window is too high for me to climb out of so I went around back to get her and then she had vanished. I came back in the room and called out the window and nothing...then I picked up a bag of her fave treats and started crinkling it and she came out of nowhere to the window again. Called K and told him to keep her near while I went around back so I could grab her and hand her to him. She almost ran away when she heard me coming through the yard but then realized it was me and threw herself down and showed her tummy. She is currently enjoying the fireplace.
