View Full Version : Poker Desperately Needs A New Home

Posting this from our local rescue's website (where I volunteer)

Poker is a gorgeous glossy black male cat who is approximately three and a half years old. He was handed in to Caring For Cats in early 2009 after being found living as a stray in Hull.

Poker is gaining confidence every day at the Homing Centre as he learns to trust, and not fear, people again. He is, however, still very nervous of strangers and uncertain about being picked up. Once he gets over his initial fear and insecurity, Poker is a lovely happy cat who enjoys one-to-one attention and playing with his toys. Poker needs a loving owner who has ample time, patience and most importantly understanding for this gorgeous cat, who has obviously gone through a very difficult time living as a stray. As he is still so wary and easily scared, we believe he would best suit a home with no small children.

Poker would like to be rehomed into a multi cat household!

If you can give this handsome boy a second chance please phone 01430 872612

Opening Hours are 11am - 5pm Tuesday-Sunday

(The bits in bold I added, bold and italic I copied from the website)

I hope so too angie, he's been in rescue for about a year now no interest in him so far whatsoever :( people just walk straight past because he's a black cat :(

He's perfectly fine with other cats, he needs to be homed into a multi cat household ;)

He takes comfort in the presence of other cats ;) (they don't have to be best friends with him, just as long as he knows they are there;) )

Aquatic I have known the charity to rehome as far away as London before ;)

Bless him - he's a lot like the stray I took on in the early 2000s, Ferdy. I adore black cats and it's such a shame they are the ones left as statistically the all-black ones are the trickiest to rehome.

No good for me I'm afraid as I have two boistrous little ones, but I do hope with all my heart Poker finds his special home soon.

Room, transport, finances, all serious issues. Thi9nk you have more than enough on your plate dont you?

I would as i live so near. Not quiet sure how he would cope with my gang.
Your in serious danger of becoming a collector.... One kitten has already turned feral (your words). I can only assume because you have too many that you were unable to socialise him properly. To the best of my knowledge he is still entire too as are the female kittens.

I have serious concerns about this RCR.

Ive PM you RCR.
I do have the room.
I havent got a car at the moment as the claim still hasnt been sorted out.
Yes Smokey isnt neutered yet as i cant get him in the carrier.
Smokey isnt feral he would have turned feral if i hadnt had taken him in. He has just attached himself to me.
I will not be taken poker. I said i wish i could take him and will not foster either.

I'll admit now that I don't always have transport but if Dylan needs to go the the vets I walk down with him.

I really hope someone takes Poker soon, him and Blackie are in danger of getting institutionalised (sp) :(

This member has already got loads of cats, and hasn't even got all the 7 month old kittens neutered yet! Is it wise to put yet another cat into that household? Seems some of the cats are turning feral for lack of attention. Think, this member is already struggling with what she has in my opinion. Maybe a home check first? Sorry, but the rescue cat should come first imo!

She's already said she's not taking Poker ;)

Although the charity don't do home checks usually, they do their best to pair up the right cat with the right owners.

If anybody feels they can take any cat on the website, not just the appeal, please consider it.

Mary's gorgeous ;) so's Sabrina (white girl not on website);)
